Two held by police over murder

Two family members have been arrested by police in Ntungamo district on charges of murdering their father.

The suspects are Gerald Kakuru alias Magere and Bayonga Ngurubi all residents of Katooma II in Katooma Parish –Kayonza sub county.

The two are said to have connived and strangled their 65 year old father Stephen Ngurubi after he allegedly refused to sell off his land and give them money to do business.

Ngurubi’s Body was found lying by the road side along the Ntungamo-Kabale highway on Sunday morning.

Gerald Kakuru a son to the deceased is said to have dropped out of school after misusing the money he had been given by the father while Bayonga had reportedly returned home after divorcing with the her husband.

The two are said to have trying to convince the father to sell off land and give them startup capital.

According to police the suspects killed their father from their family house and later carried the body to mishenyi village and dumped his body by the roadside. The killers also put bananas and smeared clay on the body to confuse police investigation.

The family members also reportedly rushed to tell the relatives that the deceased had been knocked dead by a speeding vehicle while on his way to check on the banana plantation at night to scare away thieves that used to steal his bananas

Oroch Benjamin the acting Ntungamo district police commander confirms the incident and says that investigations are under way.
