Account For Our Taxes- Leaders Rallied
“Ugandans are not opposed to paying taxes. The Problem is that we do not see the value for the taxes we pay,” according to FDC’s Virginia Plan Mugyenyi- the former contestant for the Sheema Municipality seat in Sheema district.
According to Mugyenyi, if government and leaders want people to embrace tax payment, they must regularly give Ugandans accountability for what they have paid but also Ugandans should endeavor to ask their leaders for this accountability often.
“Ugandans, let us always ask our leaders for accountability. We pay taxes and therefore we deserve an explanation of what our money has done,” the confident politician observes adding that “Leaders should on the other hand not wait for people to demand accountability but take this as one of their obligations.”
She however says that some taxes like the tax on Mobile Money transactions should be abolished in Uganda.
