Leading by example: Bushenyi MPs Donate food

Two Ministers, a Member of Parliament and Bushenyi district NRM chairman have donated 60.5 tonnes of maize flour to the district Covid-19 task force.
The donation was on Saturday May 2, 2020 handed over to the RDC Jolly Tibemanya who is also the head of the district task force. The donation is to help vulnerable communities in Bushenyi district who are going through a tough time due to covid-19 pandemic.

Those who donated are; Raphael Magyezi- the Minister for Local Government, Mary Karooro Okurut -Minister for General duties in the office of the Prime Minister, Michael Mawanda- MP Igara East and Alhajji Hassan Bassajabalaba the district NRM chairman.

Speaking to Mbarara News, Bassajabalaba noted that they hope to moblise more relief food items to help the vulnerable people who are hard hit by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
MP Mawanda in a comment to Mbarara News extended an appreciation to the health workers who are at the frontline of covid-19 fight and response in Uganda.

On her part, Karooro who is also the Bushenyi District Woman MP lauded Ugandans for playing a crucial role in the fight against covid-19 so far adding that “the guidelines in place are meant to save lives.”

None of the leaders talked about the 20 Million shillings that was allocated to each MP for covid-19 response. This issue has raised public outcry and a cross section of Bushenyi district residents want area leaders to come out clean and show the side they are on in this matter.
