The newly elected chairpersons for women councils have been challenged to champion the fight against domestic violence in their communities.
The call was made by Steven Muganga –the Biharwe division chairperson while meeting NRM party supporters at Kyeizooba sub county headquarters in Igara East County, Bushenyi district.
A team from NRM party under their umbrella NRM party scouts –a political advocacy aiming at reconciling NRM party candidates who lose and win elections is currently on ground sensitizing and consulting people on how best the party can once more gain popularity in every sub county in Ankole region.
Muganga challenged women who were elected on women council committees to immediately start holding meetings and educate their fellows on how best they can fight domestic violence in their communities.
“I want to appeal to women committees that were elected to champion this cause, in Uganda domestic violence is on a higher level,reason being the committees are not doing its work therefore the new committees should start immediately by holding meetings to address the issues of domestic violence in the country” he said.
Amos Rwangomani –the NRM party National scouts’ coordinator said that a committee of five members at every sub county is selected and it will be used to vet people who want to stand on NRM party ticket.
“The committees were forming will be the one to vet people who want to stand on NRM Ticket because everybody could come from where s/he wants and put on a yellow shirt and tie to stand on the party ticket. The people who want to stand on NRM party ticket will pass through all committees starting from village up to the district and this will help to avert the misunderstandings in the party” He said.
Eldard Karukiiko –the Kyeizooba sub county NRM party chairperson condemned NRM supporters who have been nominated for local council one chairperson as independent candidates. He said that it such greed that is killing their party.
